Snapshot

  • Molecular Biology and Genetics Level III student researching implementation of the RUBY reporter gene into the Department of Biology’s plant molecular genetics workshop

  • Currently in an independent research project

  • Position obtained through: Networking, cold emailing, classes

  • I am studying plant genetics with a focus on the RUBY reporter gene and the 35S promoter. I am investigating the benefits of using RUBY instead of the traditional reporter gene called GUS, and aiming to implement it into the Biology Department's Plant Molecular Genetics workshops to demonstrate gene expression. Moreover, I am trying to figure out conditions that will either over-express or under-express RUBY!

  • Future plans: I would like to continue a career in research and academia :)

“My best advice for getting involved in research is to not limit yourself to one opportunity at a time since it can lead to discouragement quite easily; rather, look everywhere for opportunities (i.e., send 100 emails, talk to all your profs and grad students, etc.) and eventually it will all work out!”
