  • Honours Life Sciences III student researching telerehabilitation Interventions for Children Living with Hearing Loss

  • Currently in an independent research project

  • Position obtained through: Networking, cold emailing

  • I conducted dry lab research in the Mcares Lab by conducting a literature review on the various types of telerehabilitation interventions available to children living with both congenital and acquired permanent hearing impairments. Utilizing the PCC framework, I developed my search strategy, established inclusion and exclusion criteria, and performed a descriptive analysis to quantify the different modes of telerehabilitation delivery and the professionals administering the interventions. My personal experience with hearing loss inspired me to pursue this research!

“Don't hesitate to take the first step, all of my research opportunities have come from either cold emailing or networking. Instead of sending out a mass of 100 emails, focus on crafting 10 personalized emails explaining your genuine interest in their work. Share your personal story and explain why the research is meaningful to you—if you're comfortable doing so. Additionally, reaching out to graduate students can be an excellent way to get involved in a lab. Lastly, remember that we all start somewhere, don't let yourself believe that you "don't have enough experience" to try, you never know what can happen!”
